July 22-30, 2017

The Buy Local Challenge was created by the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission and has since become a statewide program. The Challenge encourages all Marylanders to eat at least one locally grown or raised product each day of the Buy Local Challenge Week, which is always the last full week of July.

The Buy Local Pledge: "I pledge to eat at least one thing from a local farm every day during Buy Local Week." Sign the pledge

Buy Local Cookout

The 10th annual Governor's Buy Local Cookout will take place July 20, 2017 at Government House in Annapolis to kick off the Buy Local Challenge. Attendance at this event is invitation only. Governor Hogan invites chefs to submit original recipes for the cookout. The invitation is open to Maryland farmer(s)/chef teams. A "chef" is a person with culinary training. Recipes from students currently in culinary classes are also considered. Recipes are to reflect creative ways to use Maryland-grown or Maryland-raised products. See the official rules.

The Buy Local Cookbooks: All entries submitted are included in a Buy Local Cookout Recipes Cookbook. We are pleased to present the 2016 cookbook below as well as all past cookbooks for free download. See reprint permission policy.
