  NOTICE ABOUT REGISTRATION RENEWAL (3.26.2024): 
Registration Renewals for FY25 will begin June 1st, 2024. All licenses must be renewed prior to the close of business on Sunday June 30th, 2023. After close of business a late fee will be assessed to registration renewals. 
Continuing Education may be (and is encouraged to be) entered prior to the registration window so staff can more effectively assist with any technical difficulties. All continuing education credits may be earned online. This is a permanent change and the regulation has been updated to remove the limit to online CEs.  Continuing education credits may be subject to a random audit. Credits should be submitted under FY25. Credits must have been earned within the last 24 months prior to registration renewal (July 1st, 2022 - June 30th, 2024). For more information regarding Continuing Education and CE approval requests please click here.  Continuing Education Approval requests should be submitted prior to May 20th, 2024 to ensure approval prior to registration renewal. ​

Notice About Vet Board Licensing and Registration Fees (3.26.2024): 
State Board of Medical Examiners -Fee, COMAR 14.14.12 has been updated to increase the fees for Veterinarians. The fee change is expected to go into effect with the updated online licensing portal. Maryland has not increased the licensing fee in over 10 years and cut fees in 2016. 
The New Fees will be: 
A. Initial Registration fee for Newly-licensed and newly reinstated veterinarians;
​1) Between July 1 and December 31 - $300
2) Between January 1 and June 30 - $150
B. Annual Registration Renewal Fee - $300
C. Veterinarian Late Registration Fee - $200
D. Veterinarian Reinstatement Fee - $300 (Application)
E. Veterinarian State Board Examination Fee - $300 (Initial Application)
F. Veterinary Technician Application Fee - $100
G. Veterinary Technician Triennial Registration Fee - $100
H. Veterinary Hospital License Fee - $300
I. Veterinary Hospital Late Fee - $200
J. Animal Control Facility License - $100; and 
K. Letter of Good Standing Fee - $25.


State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners

The Board licenses and registers veterinarians, registered veterinary technicians, veterinary hospitals, and animal control facilities and enforces the Veterinary Practice Act and related Code of Maryland regulations. 

The Board also inspects veterinary hospitals and animal control shelters, provides disciplinary information to other state veterinary boards and the public, and submits licensure verification to other state veterinary boards upon request.

The Board also investigates consumer complaints, initiates its own investigations, and determines whether disciplinary action will be taken against veterinarians, registered veterinary technicians, and veterinary hospitals as required by Agriculture Article, §2-301, et seq., Annotated Code of Maryland. Additionally, the Board reviews requests for approval of continuing education credits for veterinarians and veterinary technicians, provides information on the Board to the public through a web page, and works with the Veterinary Technician Committee in setting practice standards for registered veterinary technicians.

The mission of the Board is to protect the public and animal health and welfare through:

  1. Effective licensure of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and veterinary hospitals under its jurisdiction;
  2.   
  3. Effective discipline of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and operators of veterinary hospitals under its jurisdiction, when warranted; and
  4.  
  5. Adoption of reasonable standards for the practice of veterinary medicine in the State of Maryland.
