Manure Happens
The Manure Happens campaign teaches citizens about how farmers manage manure resources and protect water quality in local streams and the Chesapeake Bay. Information for farmers on the benefits of using manure as a crop fertilizer and details on MDA's new Fast Track grants can be found here.
Fertilizer should only be applied to lawns when the grass is actively growing. To prevent runoff, fertilize warm season grasses in late spring or early summer and cool season grasses in fall. Fertilizer blackout dates start Nov. 16 and run through Feb. 28. For tips on fertilizing responsibly, visit Maryland’s Lawn Fertilizer Law webpage.
In accordance with Maryland's Open Meetings Act, the Maryland Department of Agriculture posts upcoming meetings on the MDA Public Meetings Calendar. Information on dates, times, locations, agendas, and points of contact are listed on each calendar event. Notices of Public Meetings are also posted on the newsroom of our website.
